Day 1: Explore the streets of Oslo

Welcome to Norway! After arriving in Oslo, transfer to the city center and settle in. Spend the afternoon strolling at your own pace. What about waterfront walks along Aker Brygge, visiting the many interactive and kid-friendly museums, and trying a sweet bun at one of the many cozy cafés? Dinner is up to you; Oslo has plenty of tasty options.

You will spend one night at a city center hotel.

Day 2: Visit a stave church & get a first glimpse of the Jotunheimen National Park

Pick up your rental car and head inland through the scenic Valdresflyet mountain road; a great area for a short break where the kids can run freely, or you can picnic for lunch. Stop in Lom to visit the stave church or dive into mountain stories at Norsk Fjellsenter.

Feeling adventurous? Zipline over a river and waterfall before continuing your drive towards your accommodation.

Stay on a welcoming mountain farm set in a small village. It’s a relaxed, family-run place where nature is right outside your door and local hosts are happy to share their love for the area. Maybe you would like to greet the horses on their farm? You have plenty of time to walk around the farm, as you’ll be staying here for 3 nights.

Day 3: Go rafting on the river

Today is all about excitement! Ready to explore? After yesterday’s drive, you and the kids may want to blow off some steam. Join a family-friendly rafting tour on the river. You can also opt for climbing high in a rope park, exploring an icy glacier cave, or hiking near Galdhøpiggen.

Day 4: Get close to Norway’s glaciers - safely
Day 4: Get close to Norway’s glaciers - safely

Drive over a part of the National Scenic Routes: the Sognefjellet. This route gives you the feeling of nearly being on top of Norway. The first part goes through the green valleys along rivers and small lakes, but as you drive on, the landscape slowly changes into a rockier and a near planet-like feel.

Welcome to the Jotunheimen National Park. This national park is home to the country’s highest peaks, including the Galdhøpiggen mountain. In short, endless opportunities for outdoor adventures for the whole family

Step onto a glacier with a guided walk. Not only will you get to come close to the ice, but you’ll also learn more about glaciers and how they played an important role in Norway’s landscape (hint: it’s always about the fjords…).

It’s also possible to slow things down with a horseback ride.

Day 5: Feel tiny while crossing the kayaking in the Geirangerfjord by

It’s time to leave the Jotunheimen National Park behind, because a new destination is waiting for you!

Drive toward the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Geirangerfjord. What better way to explore the fjords than by being right at sea level with it? Paddle through the famous fjord on a 3-hour guided kayak tour. You’ll paddle in stable, double kayaks, so that the younger kids will also be safe and have a great time on the fjord.

Afterwards, you’ll ride your car on a ferry to cruise between towering cliffs and waterfalls, all the way to the other side of the fjord.

Continue to Stryn, where you will stay in a cabin for 3 nights.

        • Kayaking: 3 hours

Day 6: Test gravity by climbing via ferrata
Day 6: Test gravity by climbing via ferrata

Challenge yourself with a beginner-friendly via ferrata climb in Loen. A guide will make sure the entire family climbs up safely. You’ll take the skylift ride back down to the valley.

Enjoy a quiet night in your cabin.

Day 7: Explore the glacier valley
Day 7: Explore the glacier valley

A relaxed day to explore the area around Stryn on your own. Walk to a hidden glacier, soak in the peaceful valley, and enjoy nature at your own pace. No rush!

Relax and play in the in and outdoor swimming pools of a nearby hotel, with a fun selection of water slides and hot tubs.

Day 8: Walk behind a waterfall, go aboard a Viking ship, and greet the Norwegian sheep

Drive the scenic Panorama Road along a side arm of the Nordfjord. Along the way, you can stop at a waterfall you can walk behind – quite the sight and a fun way to stretch your legs and break up the road trip for today.

Continue to a village at the end of sidearm of the Nordfjord. Meet your guide at an interactive museum where you will be told interesting stories about a Viking king who once lived in the exact place! Go aboard the Viking ship and feel like a real Viking for an hour or two.

Cross the fjord by local ferry to visit a historic sheep farm for a warm, hands-on rural experience.

You will stay in an apartment in an old trading post or a fishermen’s cabin in the village for 2 nights.

              https://www.norway-adventures.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Active-Family-Tour-Fjords-Jotunheimen-NP_DAY-8-Sheep-farm-visit-Davik.jpg
Day 9: Hike along the coast or stroll around the fishermen's villages
Day 9: Hike along the coast or stroll around the fishermen's villages

You’re now in Bremanger, an often overlooked coastal area where you will find tall sea cliffs, white sandy beaches, and red fishermen’s cottages all in one place.

Explore the area on your own. You can go hiking along sea cliffs or along the beach, visit the charming fishermen’s villages, or run up the path leading to a viewpoint.

Or maybe you just want to stay at your cabin and let your kids try their luck at fishing? The choice is yours!

Day 10: Enjoy a cozy farm stay and walk the waterfall trail
Day 10: Enjoy a cozy farm stay and walk the waterfall trail

Leave the coast behind as you begin the road trip towards Bergen. Since the drive is long, we’d love for you to stay the night in the middle somewhere. The scenic route from Bremanger southbound is fjord road, small ferries, and passing through villages to see how Norwegians live day to day.

You’ll stay the night at a charming and family-run farm hotel near the Gaularfjellet mountain and one of the National Scenic Routes. The hosts are very nice and knowledgeable, and the breakfast is great (try the homemade strawberry jam). Visit the rabbits, ducks, and sheep, and let them nibble on your shoelaces while you give their heads a scratch. If you’d like, walk the bird trail or visit some of the nearby waterfalls. You can also drive a bit further to the official viewpoint for an impressive view over the mountain tops.

Enjoy a delicious dinner at the farm this evening

Day 11: Cross the Sognefjord & explore Bergen

Before you know it, you’re on a ferry crossing Norway’s biggest fjord: the Sognefjord.

Arrive in the charming city of Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city, though when you walk around, it doesn’t feel like that. The city center’s cobbled streets and relaxed atmosphere make it feel like a lively town with lots to do. Take the Fløibanen funicular up the mountain to greet the friendly goats who live at the top, or feel like you’re back in history by walking along the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf with the colorful wooden houses. The kids will definitely get that movie-magic feeling!

You will stay at the city center hotel for 1 night.

Custom 12 Day Active Family Vacation

This was a highly anticipated trip, as it was 3 years delayed due to the pandemic. We had contacted Anne for a custom vacation when our kids were 11 and 9, but covid put it off until now at 14 and 12.

Anne completely changed our itinerary for (now) 2 active teens and it was fabulous. Every time I wasn’t sure I would like something I was totally wrong and Anne and her team delivered a wonderful family vacation. She even worked in a half marathon race for me in the middle of our trip. She was very responsive (super helpful when we made a wrong turn in the middle of nowhere) and had great recommendations. I would say the best part about using Norway Adventures was we didn’t feel like we had done “Norway in a Nutshell” with every other foreign tourist. We mostly met other Norwegians on their holidays and felt like we had seen the country through local eyes. We didn’t do Pulpit Rock or Trolltunga, but we hiked Lomseggen and saw maybe 5 other people. In Loen, it was busy (cruise ships), but Anne had put us in a cabin away from the centre with the most gorgeous view of a glacial lake (see photo, with rainbow), which we then hiked basically alone as well.
                    Best Parts:
                    * definitely the Kayak trip and overnight camping. The guides were phenomenal and despite drenching rain, we all rated it as our top activity, and would consider doing the 6 day trip when the kids are a bit older. I wish we had done 3 days.
                    * Lom – great hiking, excellent bakery, nice little town to wander
                    * Hiking Kjenndalsbreen near Loen

Having Norway Adventures plan our trip gave us access to parts of Norway we never would have seen had I just planned it on my own or done a more off the shelf plan. That is what we enjoy most about travelling, and this trip delivered in spades.

                    Fantastic trips with Norway Adventures

We have made multiple trips with Norway Adventures. Each time everything was very well organized. Would really recommend to book with Norway Adventures.

Fantastic 12 day active family vacation

We just got back from the 12 day active family vacation with Norway adventures. It was an amazing time. The itinerary Anne gave us was the perfect balance between organised activities and explore things on your own.

The information booklet with the route maps, activities to do, recommendations for food in each area was spot on.
Thank you Norway Adventures for organising such an amazing holiday for us.
Kind regards, Arlène, Frans, Maurits and Pieter

A fabulous mother-and-son journey through Norway

I took my son (age 11) on a 12-day driving tour of Norway, which would not have been possible without Anne. She booked everything for us, including the rental car, and it was completely seamless and easy for me to manage as a single mom with a tween.

The itinerary allowed us to experience several different environments — the high mountains of the Jotenheim, the western fjordlands, glaciers, and the coast. We enjoyed getting off the beaten path and seeing the most gorgeous scenery I have ever encountered. We did mostly shorter hikes given my son’s age (and attitude toward hiking), but a serious hiker would find some amazing opportunities for epic treks in these areas. The places Anne booked for us to stay were quite unique and full of character. I particularly enjoyed the two day kayaking trip in the hidden fjord. The campsite was lovely, and the gear – boats, tents, sleeping bags, camping mattresses – was all top notch. I hope to return to Norway again and would definitely reach out to Norway Adventures to plan another trip!
