What to bring
There are a couple of things you really don’t want to forget to bring on this fjord ski touring week in Norway, check out the packing list for going to the fjords in winter!
Day to Day
When you arrive at Vigra airport in Ålesund, you’ll take the bus or rent a car. Get ready for your winter fjord experience! Including two ferry crossings, it is roughly a three hour drive to your luxury lodge. You will meet the guide at the lodge and have the rest of the day to settle into your home for the next week.
For habituation and material control, we do a small tour in the morning. We also practice with the avalanche transceiver, shovel, and avalanche probe. In the afternoon you can explore the resort and the multiple free-ride possibilities available for you to ski.
Elevation: 500m up & down
Today we have a nice tour in Nordfjord on the program. We make altimeters, for example, to Ljosuregga or Troda (980 m). It is a medium-length tour without technically difficult obstacles. For Ljosuregga we start at the lodge. However, if the Troda has good snow we prefer this. This a pretty typical Norwegian tour since you start in a small farmers village and along the way you get to experience amazing views of the fjords, and from the top you can even see the Atlantic Ocean.
Elevation: 700m up & 900m down
We pack our stuff in the car and drive to Stranda, where we will stay the rest of the week. We will pass the UNESCO Listed World Heritage Geirangerfjord and get some amazing views from our car.
In the afternoon we make a trip to for example Høgenibba (1191m) starting from the Storesætra. Or to Blæja (1420m), starting from Fivlestadhaugen (400m) in the beautiful Norangsvalley. This tour is characterized by a long gradual trek up. The reward at the top is the view overlooking the Hjørundfjord, surprising and very beautiful. The rest of the week we stay in a luxury cabin in Stranda.
Elevation: 800m up & 1000m down
The area surrounding Stranda is considered the heart of winter sports in Western Norway. There are countless opportunities to go on ski tours. Depending on the weather and snow conditions we choose the most beautiful day trip spot.
Elevation: 700m up & down
We leave in the morning towards the Dalmannshornet (1436m) then further down the valley. First we zigzag up through the forest and come up quickly above the treeline. Here we have a splendid overview of the surrounding mountains. We cross the ridge to the top of the Dalmannshornet before making our way down again.
Elevation: 1000m up & down
Tour to the Kvitegga or Tuvegga (1180m), not far from our lodge. This is a nice top to close the week. First through the woods up, continuing over a pretty plateau and then continue to the top. We then have a wonderful descent back to the car park in the valley. There is a big chance we find beautiful powder here.
Elevation: 800m up & down
After breakfast, transfer to Alesund. The route is well worth it, thanks to the boat crossing over the fjord. Our ski touring journey comes to an end and you will be dropped off at the Ålesund airport for your flight back home.
A fantastic experience 3 sporty girls who love nature, adventure and fun. Before that we were in very good hands with Rogier. He has shown us all corners of Stranda and Nordfjeld that matched our level.
Me and my two friends went to Norway to go for a tourski trip with Rogier, but it turned out to be so much more. Rogier made this trip very worth while; he knows a lot about nature and the environment and he loves to show you around.
